Club Umpire Exam – New Brunswick

The New Brunswick Table Tennis Association (NBTTA) is pleased to announce that

the Club Umpire Examination is now open for candidates interested in beginning their officiating journey in table tennis. This is the first step toward becoming a certified official and contributing to the growth of the sport at the club and provincial levels.


About the Examination

The Club Umpire Exam has been carefully designed to evaluate a candidate’s understanding of the official rules of table tennis and their ability to apply these rules in a match setting. Key details include:

  • Format: The exam is open-book and consists of two types of questions: True/False and Multiple Choice.

  • Reference Material: All answers must be based on the ITTF “Laws of Table Tennis” (Chapter Two) that are in effect at the time of writing the exam. Candidates will need to review the following document:

  • Time Limit: Candidates have 60 minutes (1 hour) to complete the exam.

  • Passing Grade: A minimum score of 75% is required in order to pass.

  • Cost to Write: There is no fee to write the online exam.


Certification and Recognition

Upon successful completion of the exam, and with the payment of a $20 certification fee, candidates will officially be recognized as Club Umpires and receive:

  1. NBTTA Officials Congratulation Letter

  2. NBTTA Club Umpire Certificate

  3. TTCAN Provincial Umpire Trainee Card

  4. Umpire Kit (including net gauge, flipper, and red/yellow/white cards)


Why Become a Club Umpire?

Club Umpires play an essential role in ensuring fair play, upholding the integrity of competition, and creating a positive environment for players at all levels. Becoming certified also provides a pathway toward higher levels of officiating, including Provincial and National Umpire qualifications.
