The New Brunswick Table Tennis Association (NBTTA), through its High-Performance Program, is proud to launch a new certification pathway for officials, including Club Umpires, Provincial Umpires, and Referees. This initiative is designed to strengthen officiating capacity in New Brunswick and support the growth of table tennis at all levels.
Our initial goal is to certify at least:
20 Club Umpires
2 Provincial Umpires
2 Provincial Referees
Umpire Certification Pathway
1. Club Umpire (Entry Level)
A free, one-hour, open-book online exam.
Upon passing and submitting a $20 certification fee, candidates will receive:
NBTTA Officials Congratulation Letter
NBTTA Club Umpire Certificate
Provincial Umpire Trainee Card
Umpire Kit (net gauge, flipper, red/yellow/white cards)
2. Provincial Umpire
Must complete Club Umpire certification first.
Requirements include:
Attend a short clinic with Erica Ans on Sunday, October 26, 2025 (organized by NBTTA).
Complete a written exam (approx. 1 hour).
Officiate a set number of matches under observation by certified officials (Erica Ans, Joe Fisher, or Delano).
3. National Umpire
After fulfilling Provincial Umpire requirements, candidates may apply to write the National Umpire exam facilitated by Table Tennis Canada (TTCAN).
Applications must be submitted through NBTTA by email to nbtta202@gmail.com.
Referee Certification Pathway
To become a certified Referee, candidates must:
Attend a one-day course delivered by Erica Ans on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Choose the desired exam level: Local, Provincial, or National.
Create and submit a basic tournament draw (bracket).
Act as a Deputy Referee at an official tournament.
Call to Action
We strongly encourage current and former NBTTA team players, club-level players, and parents to take the free one-hour, open-book Club Umpire Exam. This is an excellent way to support and grow our sport.
Note: The Club Umpire Exam must be completed before attending the October 26th clinic.
